Mercedes Salaz

Mercedes has been homeschooling her two children for 14 years. She found a passion for homeschooling early on in motherhood and loves supporting families through this amazing journey. She enjoys helping families where they’re at, from being a Babywearing educator to still currently an accredited La Leche League Leader. As a homeschool teacher she loves to meet learners where they’re at as well. She strives for her students to learn while having fun. She also believes in interest-led learning and finding a way to use that in their learning journey. She can’t wait to teach Spanish this fall! As a native speaker, she’s excited to bring this beautiful and practical skill to her students.

She introduces Spanish through fun, interactive, and practical conversations. The class focuses on everyday vocabulary, basic grammar and speaking skills to help learners feel confident using Spanish in real-life situations. Through games, role-playing, songs, and guided dialogues, students will learn to introduce themselves, ask and answer questions, describe their surroundings, talk about hobbies, and more.

She holds a BA in Sociology from UCLA. Her love of film production bloomed at UCLA and then she went on to produce and edit at KABC, KNBC, local LA city channels, Cable companies and Ad Agencies producing commercials. She also produced and directed an award-winning short documentary.

Her first passion as a child was dance. She started at the age of five and always continued her passion by being in dance teams, taking dance classes at UCLA and even now as an adult. Her love of dancing brought opportunities to perform at various events in LA throughout the years.
