Griffith Observatory Exploration

  • 2800 East Observatory Road Los Angeles, CA, 90027 United States (map)

Join this Field Trip to visit LA's famous landmark, the Griffith Observatory! The Observatory offers many stellar experiences plus an amazing view of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. During the visit we can see live images of the Sun on their solar telescope, view rocks from space on display, look at an active seismograph and admire the Observatory’s famous Foucault Pendulum, demonstrating the Earth’s rotation. Also not to miss is the new immersive exhibit about “local noon”, telling us about in the motions of the Sun, Moon, and stars across the sky, demonstrating how these motions are linked with time and the calendar.

For the adventurous students and families, we will meet an hour before the field trip to hike up to the Observatory using the 1.5 mile Observatory Trail.
